The Microforest is a partnership between the City of Calgary and BGSS.  It is a community of native trees and shrubs planted tightly together based on the Miyawaki method developed by Dr. Akira Miyawaki in the 1970's. The high planting density encourages competition for access to sunlight, water, and nutrients, creating very rapid growth.
