Our Gardens

Crevice Garden

The alpine crevice garden features alpine plants that flourish in mountainous areas. The technique of creating crevices similar to that found in the mountains is demonstrated here. There is also a surrounding area of native plants. This garden is a partnership with Calgary Rock and Alpine Gardening Society. This garden is available to be sponsored. Eagle Garden

The Eagle Garden borders on the forest area. Plants here are very hardy.

Entrance Garden

A colorful display of drought tolerant trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals, welcomes visitors to the main entrance. 

Fruit Grove

The Fruit Grove contains a collection of fruit bearing trees and shrubs that can grow in Calgary's climate, including apples, pears, apricots, cherries and plums.  The area also has picnic tables and a little lending library that is stocked with gardening books.

Gateway Garden

This south entrance garden features many colorful shrubs. All plants are hardy, drought-tolerant, and low maintenance. A large arbor covered in ivy welcomes visitors. 

Half Moon Garden

This garden features a display of annuals. Each year is different and demonstrates the range of a specific annuals.

Heart Garden

The heart gardens celebrates the families who deal with congenital heart disease. Plants here have been chosen by the families in collaboration with the gardeners and highlight heart shaped plants, flowers and leaves.

Labyrinth Garden

The labyrinth is patterned after the Chartres Labyrinth in France. It is the only public labyrinth in Alberta (as of 2024).

LoH20 Garden

The LoH2O garden highlights plants that are drought tolerant. Many native species are also in this garden.

Martagon Lily Garden

This garden has been created in partnership with the Alberta Regional Lily Society and showcases martagon lilies that have been bred by Canadian Prairie Breeders.

Old Post Garden

This garden is patterned after an English Cottage Garden. The themes change from time to time but are often color tone based. 

Oval Garden

This garden was the first garden developed within the Botanic Gardens. It features numerous perennials.

Owl Garden

This is a forest edge garden with very hardy plants.

Pelican Garden

This is a forest garden where hardy plants grow in dappled sunlight.

Peony Garden

Features many species of Peony grown from seed.

Rose Bowl

Showcases over 50 different varieties of hardy shrub roses.

Shade Garden

Features plants that thrive in shade. Full shade to semi-shade areas are situated within the garden.

Shakespeare Garden

Shakespeare wrote much about plants. This garden highlights and demonstrates plants referenced in Shakespear’s work along with quotes.

South Border Garden

This garden is being redeveloped in 2024-2025 with an emphasis on native plants, pollinator friendly, and drought tolerance.

Sunflower Garden

A garden for sunflowers. Shades of Van Gogh.

Swan Garden

A garden highlighting lilies and irises.

Wall One

The wall creates a unique microenvironment, allowing zone 4 plants to thrive. This garden supports our espalier apple trees and a variety of perennials and shrubs, including hydrangeas, roses and clematis. This garden is available to be sponsored. Wall Three

This unique microenvironment demonstrates multiple perennials and annuals with red poppies reminiscent of Flanders Fields.

Wall Two

This unique micro environment has many trellises for wisteria and other vines. Along with a big show of hollyhock

Welcome Garden
